Our History

Wilmington Pathology Associates (WPA) was founded in 1976 and began serving New Hanover County as a hospital-based group at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. WPA has grown to provide pathology services for Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center, Novant Health Scotts Hill Ambulatory Surgery Center, Wilmington SurgCare, Pender Memorial Hospital, Cape Fear Orthopedic Hospital, Wilmington Health and many independent physicians’ practices.

We offer a full range of surgical pathology & cytology services including:

Fine needle aspiration interpretation

Next day turnaround on most biopsy specimens

Our approach to client service is to make our pathologists available (and reachable) at any time for consultation on a diagnosis. We understand the downstream effect of our being available when needed, and we strive to exceed expectations in that regard.
