Wilmington
Pathology Associates (WPA) was founded in 1976, and began
serving New Hanover County as a hospital based group at New
Hanover Regional Medical Center. Wilmington Pathology Associates has grown to
provide pathology services for Cape
Fear Hospital, Atlantic SurgiCenter, Wilmington
SurgCare, Pender
Memorial Hospital, Brunswick Community Hospital and many independent physicians’
practices.
Wilmington Pathology Associates opened a free standing laboratory
in June 2000, focusing on cytology, particularly monolayer
ThinPrep™
Pap tests and HPV testing. In March of 2001, a full service
histology laboratory was added to enhance our level of patient
care. In 2008, Wilmington Pathology Associates spun off the lab and created Wilmington Pathology Laboratory (WPL) employing thirty team members ranging from pathologists
and a microbiologist to cytotechnologists, histology technicians,
lab technicians, transcriptionists, administrative assistants,
sales people, business managers and couriers.
Through this independent laboratory, Wilmington Pathology Laboratory grew to offer
a full range of surgical pathology and cytology services including:
- Comprehensive immunohistochemistry library
- Fine needle aspiration interpretation
- Next day turn around on most biopsy specimens
- HPV, gonorrhea & chlamydia testing
- Frozen Sections
- ThinPrep™ Pap tests
- Flow cytometry
In July 2011 Wilmington Pathology Laboratory was acquired by Solstas Lab Partners Group, allowing the lab to expand
its testing capabilites and provide additional services and support to Physician practices. Wilmington Pathology Associates continues to be an independent local pathology
group partnering with Solstas Lab Partners to provide the highest quality services to Physician practices and patients.
Wilmington Pathology Associates, along with Solstas Lab Partners, covers the majority of southeastern
North Carolina. Our clients enjoy the benefit of receiving
more personalized and dedicated service from pathologists
and other medical personnel they can call if a question
arises about a patient's care. Recognizing the need for this type
of professional yet personalized service, WPA continues to
expand services within the Carolinas.
